Hilltop School in Somersworth NH has been awarded a Nutrition grant for this school year from the NH Department of Education, Division of Program Support, Bureau of Nutrition Programs and Services called the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). As part of the FFVP, all children at Hilltop school are provided with a variety of FREE fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day.
With the help of Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace, and Nathan Duclos, NH Farm to School Program Coordinator, the program provides free, healthy SNACK options to students during the school day.
Since the beginning of the school year, students have had the chance to try fresh apples, bananas, green beans, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes, turnips, grapes and blueberries. Many more varieties will be made available to students in the coming months.
What is the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program?
